The Shadow of the Gods by John Gwynne

My Quick Takes:
- 5/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- Genre 📚 epic fantasy
- Language 🤐 moderate
- Spice ❤️‍🔥 closed door
- Content 🤔 slavery, kidnapping, graphic violence, death, themes of war, blood based magic system, sexual innuendo

Yep, John Gwynne is still my favorite.

The pacing, the voice, the plotting, all perfection 👌🏼 and all the same John Gwynne writing that I know and love from his other books. I keep comparing and contrasting it to his series The Faithful and the Fallen, which is my absolute favorite fantasy series.

It took me until the 80% mark to be fully bought into the plot. I wasn’t sure I was seeing where it all was leading, but it got there and I’m heading straight into the second book. I’m listening to the audio and the narrator is good!

If you’re a John Gwynne fan, I definitely recommend reading it, although I still think Malice is his best work.
