I think I’m obsessed with Superintendent Battle!
Battle appears in 5 books, 4 are standalones, and 1 is in the Poirot series: Cards on the Table. Of the 3 I’ve read, I’ve rated them all very highly! Can’t wait to read the final two standalones at some point soon. It took me a bit to get into the plot, but then it got very interesting very quickly. I loved the familiar characters from The Secret of Chimneys (and some of the comedic relief as well).
I read The Seven Dials Mystery and The Secret of Chimneys with a book club that I co-host and I think the general consensus will be that readers preferred this title over The Secret of Chimneys. It starts out as one of Christie’s run-of-the-mill mysteries, a death occurring at a country estate, and the plot developing from there. I personally enjoyed Chimneys better, I loved the international political intrigue and humor in it, but both are amazing titles. Like I said, big fan of Battle!
If you’re interested in which books Superintendent Battle appears, here is the list in publication order:
– The Secret of Chimneys by Agatha Christie (standalone)
– The Seven Dials Mystery by Agatha Christie (standalone)
– Cards on the Table by Agatha Christie (Hercule Poirot #14)
– Murder is Easy by Agatha Christie (standalone)
– Towards Zero by Agatha Christie (standalone
