An epic conclusion to the trilogy!
I had an interesting reading experience with this series. I absolutely loved book 1, and jumped immediately into book 2, which had some content that frequently pulled me out of the plot. Due to the content in book 2 (lots of unnecessary sexual innuendo and crass humor), I took a break between reading book 2 and 3. By the time I started book 3 I wasn’t as interested in the characters anymore due to not being as engrossed in the plot of book 2. This is unfortunate because book 3 is epic, and even with my feelings of being on the sidelines of the narrative, I can still attest to this.
This final book in the trilogy starts and ends with fast paced battle. Gwynne ups the pacing and ante in this plot and no character is safe. Additionally, the content from book 2 that I didn’t prefer was hardly mentioned in book 3, making it seem even more unnecessary to include in book 2. At the end of the day , I loved how story concluded and am still a huge fan of John Gwynne and his books.
I was hoping this would be a home run 5 star series for me and it just wasn’t. The Faithful and the Fallen series is still my favorite fantasy series of all time and remains my favorite series by John Gwynne.
