Do not recommend the audiobook. It’s terrible 😅
This was a super fun book rec from a friend. Would’ve never picked up this author if she hadn’t mentioned it. This book is by a Japanese author, published in the ‘80s and translated to English. I didn’t guess the murder at all, and the plotting and final twist were fantastic.
I think it may have been the “lost in translation” aspect paired with the robotic sounding audiobook narrator, but there was no feeling/emotions coming through the characters. At least it felt that way to me. I wasn’t emotionally involved in the characters or plot at all.
However, I do want to read his other books. Love that this is by a Japanese author and translated to English, love that so much. So I do plan to read more of his books, but I’ll skip the audiobook rendition going forward.
