My Quick Takes:
- 4/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- Genre 📚 memoir
- Language 🤐 a few mild
- Spice ❤️🔥 none
- Content 🤔 death, themes of war
I loved learning more about CS Lewis’ childhood and formative years as a boy and young man. He alludes to his time serving during the Great War and I am astounded at how well read he was (and in multiple languages no less!)
Due to CS Lewis’ own personal genius, the content did feel a bit dense at times. Honestly that seems to be more of a critique of myself as a reader and less of him as a scholar 😅
If I had read the description for this title I think I wouldve had a better mindset going in that this is a partial memoir about the early years of his life up to his conversion. It felt like I was taken on a partial journey, diving into the weeds of his past and finally getting to the climactic moment of his conversion only to be met with the end of the narrative.
I have this title in a bind up with “The Four Loves” by CS Lewis and didn’t realize this was only a partial memoir. I definitely recommend this title, just know going in you will probably finish it wanting to know more of his life story post conversion!
