The ending. HOW?!

I read this around 10 yrs ago so this was technically a reread for me but I literally remembered nothing and none of it came back to me, so it felt like I was reading it for the first time.

This is Christie’s first Poirot novel truly set in the Middle East and I loved it. The narrator is someone that was on an archeological dig site, so no Hastings for this one. I loved Poirot’s final monologue in every book where he lays out how he solved the case and this one DELIVERS! Two full chapters of monologue, one of which is lengthy, I loved it so much.

The plotting felt like it had a leg in the cozy mystery genre. It was slower paced and Poirot did a lot of interviewing of suspects, akin to murder on the orient express. The narrator is also a sensible woman which I think added to the cozy tone as well. I’m realizing Hastings can be a touch dramatic 😅

Reading this one was extra fun for the publishing order because there were a few easter eggs to past books as well as a name drop for the title of her next book that I caught 👀
