This is somehow my very first Colleen Coble. I’ve wanted to read her books for years now but never knew where to start. A friend suggested this book and I dove in without a second thought.

The themes in this book are not ones I enjoy reading. As a mom, my intrusive thoughts need no help thinking up horrible scenarios to happen to children. The plot of this book focuses around a child abduction and from the very first pages I knew the themes would be a “it’s not you, it’s me” situation.

Even with themes I personally don’t enjoy reading, I was able to get a good feel of Coble’s writing style. I’m not sure if this is a theme throughout her books, but the ended felt very abrupt and left the reader having to assume or formulate on their own how the characters would keep handling their final predicament. This is book 1 in a series, so I’m not sure if these characters will pop up again in the next book. I personally would enjoy that as a reader as I feel like the characters’ stories were just getting started when the book ended.

I listened to this on audio and the narrator was fine. At the end of the day the content and quick ending were what kept this from being a 4 star read for me.
