This book left me speechless. I struggled through the first half of it, didn’t latch onto any of the characters, just really didn’t like any of them. Wasn’t necessarily interested in the plot or what was going on. Dare I say, it made me miss Hastings. Having a familiar face would’ve gone a long way in the beginning of this book for me.
I liked the Egypt aspect and could tell the plot wasn’t going to be as cut and dry as it seemed, it was more intricate than it let on. But I had no clue where it was going or how many moving parts were in play.
The ending. Wow. I think this is the most reveals I’ve read in a Christie book. The plot was very complex and the reader doesn’t realize until the very end. Poirot also mentions two past cases which was really fun. He referenced Murder on the Orient Express and Murder in Mesopotamia, it always adds a layer to the reading experience when I catch those references as I read the series in order.
I don’t know what to rate this. At first I was thinking around 3.75 or 4 stars. But the final 25% completely made up for my feelings in the first half of the plot. The reveals were just too good.
