I laughed. I cried. What more could you need?
As I read more romcoms, I’m slowly figuring out what tropes I enjoy and this book was just *chefs kiss*. It had immediate tension, banter, and a tragic backstory for great character depth. I loved the comedic thread running throughout the narrative as well with a healthy dose of inside jokes and ditzy moments. The female main character’s name is Holland, which I love, and I think that endeared me to her early as we share the theme of being named after places.
Some of the tropes in this romcom are grumpy/sunshine, marriage of convenience, only one bed, rivals to more, and best friends sister.
Here are a few quotes I loved from the book:
Good grief. Is he going to Princess Diaries me?
I should have known better. Never kiss the enemy, even if you’re doing it to win an argument.
Butterflies. So many stupid butterflies taking flight in my stomach, all of them drunk and out past curfew.
This book is part of an interconnected stand alone series called Falling for Summer. Its a seven book series, each book is written by a different author. This is the only book I’ve read from the series. There is overlap with some characters from the other books but not knowing those characters outside of this book did not hinder my reading experience.
