Book Information
Title: Appointment with Death
Author: Agatha Christie
Publication: 1938
Genre: Murder Mystery
Series: Book 18 in the Hercule Poirot series
A murder occurs on holiday in the middle east (that’s all you’re getting from me!)
My Thoughts
I really enjoyed this Hercule Poirot title. It’s one that has more of a psychological and eerie aspect to it which felt perfect for the late summer/early fall time that I read it. If you’ve read Poirot, you know he loves to get into the psychology of the criminal, but this wasn’t the psychological aspect at play in this plot. If you liked Murder on the Orient Express I think you would enjoy this one. Parts of the plot made me think of Murder on the Orient express (I’m not going to tell you why though, you have to figure that out for yourself and tell me if you agree!)
Once again, Christie got me. I figured out zero part of the crime, but I personally think her masterful plotting can be easily seen in hindsight with this narrative. Some of her books I struggle to see the thread she’s pulling throughout, but with this one I immediately saw it once she unveiled the murderer in the final pages. I listened to this on audio with my favorite Poirot narrator, Hugh Fraser!
Biblical Worldview & Themes
Not much stood out to me in this book, as with most of Agatha Christie’s titles. There is an interesting moral dilemma that comes up in this narrative because of how the murder victim is portrayed, and I’d rather leave you to find out for yourself what I’m talking about on that one.
Who I’d recommend this to
I personally think that anyone can read Agatha Christie, she is the Queen of Mystery for a reason! If you have convictions about murder in general, or more specifically suicide, this title is not for you.
